MEV Researchathon @SBC ‘23 is a multi-day event during SBC week focused on cross-team research-engineering collaboration to develop specs and prototypes to address thorny R&D challenges, which can further inspire papers or blogposts or open source tooling, etc. after the IRL researchathon ends.

Pre-game the researchathon on the Day 3 (final) afternoon of SBC ‘23 conference. Based on your research interests, skillz and commitment, our navigators may invite you to join their crew and whiteboard at the MEV Pi-rate Ship.

Spice up the researchathon peer review at a real BBQ, where the steak and the spec are roasted. The navigators will present the research problem and their solution design or framework for feedback.

 The redistribution salon will be an intimate discussion on the social and philosophical elements of economic fairness on Ethereum. When we consider economic proposals for Ethereum and the future of MEV, what goals are we trying to achieve and what world can we create?

The discussion will be non-technical and will consider a high level of context for participants. For those hoping for a technical discussion of proposals of MEV redistribution mechanism implementations, Flashbots is hosting other salons this week on PBS and order flow sharing, which will be more implementation-grounded. For those that have not been participating in the 

 or completed the reading thus far, we strongly encourage those who choose to attend to have read the materials to be able to speak about them.

Due to limited space, we can only accept 30 people who can dedicate their entire day to the space to solve problems in MEV.

The MEV Research-athon is yet another form social experiment for collaborative research. We invite [re]searchers, protocol designers, data scientists from different organizations that are tackling a common problem space, to hack on some shared challenges.

Researchers can form “Special Purpose Vessels” - flash organizations of 3-5 researchers that team up based on interest in a particular challenge, to tackle specific research problems in an irl workshop.

To overcome the Babel Tower in collaboration, much of the day will be spent on calibration of knowledge via curated talks. Each of the talk should make references to prior speaker’s framework, language and mental models to maintain consistency.

By the end of the workshop, each of the teams should present their research question and methodologies similar to a 

, or design specifications, prototypes, etc…

Ideally, the research-athon may inspire participants to continue after the irl workshop, and turn the ideas and prototypes into POCs, blogposts, papers or future presentation.
