This is how learning should be….

Learning is an innate skill we’re all born with. It’s essential for survival. Our species would never have evolved throughout the millennia without it. As individuals we wouldn’t be able to live in our society if we weren’t able to learn. Heck, we wouldn’t even be able to walk!

Learning is something we do naturally. But we don’t all want to learn the same things. And isn’t that a good thing? We need a wide range of skills in our society, if we could all only do the same things, we would be in a bit of a mess!

So it seems natural that we should allow our children to explore learning in their own way, learn the things they are interested in, and empower them to find their skills, talents and passions. To find the place in the world they truly fit and want to be.

In our inspirEd talks this week we’re looking at different ways we can foster meaningful learning in children, and allow them to develop their love of learning, rather than making it seem like work.

On Tuesday, we will be joined by Ray Girn and Matt Bateman of Higher Ground Education to discuss the natural learning approach of the Montessori Education movement, and how they are bringing its ideas to mainstream education.

And on Wednesday, we will speak with Pilar Fortuny to talk about the benefits of nature based learning, and how learning in and through nature has profound benefits for children, their communities and the natural world.

On Thursday, we are delighted to welcome Self Directed Education expert Dr Gina Riley to discuss the importance of letting children explore their interests, and how you can trust that they will learn when they are inspired by what they are learning.

We’re so excited to welcome these speakers to our inspirEd stage, and are looking forward to hearing from you with your questions and experiences.

We’d love to know what you’d like us to feature in our inspirEd events. Do you have a topic you’d like us to explore? Do you know an expert who speaks about learning and alternative education who would be a great fit for our Clubhouse room? We’d love to hear from you! Please reply to this email/email [insert email address here] with your suggestions!

Stay inspirEd!
