A4FC Rematriation of Indigenous Foodways w/ Sara Calvosa Olson - Workshop #1

​Join the Alliance For Felix Cove & Sara Calvosa Olson (Karuk) for two focused and integrated programs on rematriation through Indigenous, Ancestral Foodways. In this paired series of two workshops we will be working with ancestral plant relatives of Tamal-liwa & Felix Cove. Workshops include plant phenology, identification, ethical gathering, learning nutrition and medicinal properties, ecosystems, lifecycle of species.

​Workshop #1 on June 7th will include a walk & visit to Felix Cove, Coast Miwok family homestead. This workshop will include plant phenology, gathering, documentation and cultural art practice of creating community with each other and our plant relatives. ​ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please bring your own lunch. Please wear layers and be prepared for warm and cold conditions. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for 1 mile hike up and downhill to Felix Cove.

​ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Sara Calvosa Olson (Karuk) is a food writer and author living on Huiman Coast Miwok Land. She is the author of Chími Nu’am: Native California Foodways for the Contemporary Kitchen (Heyday, 2023). Her work dwells at the intersection of storytelling, Indigenous food systems, security, sovereignty, reconnection, and recipe development. With an interest in using both culturally sound & faithfully updated techniques honoring traditional plants and animals, her cooking inspires a new look at the oldest foods in California.
