Jacaranda Health presents UlizaLlama
Join us for an engaging seminar in our ongoing series focused on the transformative power of generative AI in the social sector.
This talk will explain how UlizaLlama, a first-of-its-kind open-access LLM by Jacaranda Health, marks an innovative step forward in making AI-driven support accessible to Swahili-speaking communities. UlizaLlama is a 7B parameter LLM fine-tuned from the Llama 2 open weight model by Meta. This model, enriched with over 321 million Swahili tokens, extends Llama 2’s capabilities to understand and generate high fidelity Swahili, offering unprecedented accuracy in encoding, decoding, and next-word completions for Swahili text. We will discuss how to leverage advanced ML techniques such as building a custom tokenizer and using Q-LoRA fine-tuning in order to offer medically accurate and locally appropriate AI services. A forthcoming paper will also explain how any organization can build a similar model for other low-resource languages.
LLMs in Social Sector is a collaborative seminar series bringing together NGOs and academics on a platform to share knowledge on leveraging generative AI for social good. We are launching a Discord community where you can ask technical questions and pair with a community of like-minded LLM enthusiasts. The series is brought to you as a collaboration between The Agency Fund, Project Tech4Dev, and Kabakoo.
