Howdy Learners! We're ringing in the new year with another Learning Night at Trident Bookstore. Learning Night is like a casual version of TED talks with a diverse group of interesting folks in a freeform jam of ideas and stories you've probably not heard before. Come ready to mingle and share :)

Noah will be giving a talk about the first 12,000 years of biological engineering and reprogramming life.

Kathy will be giving a talk about what caring for dying patients has taught her about living.

Helen will be giving a talk about her experience being legally blind.

Want to give a talk? You don't have to be an expert, just passionate about sharing :) Please message Bill if you're interested in speaking.

Each night has 3 speakers who share something they're passionate about—anything at all! It's typically a 15 min talk + 5 min Q&A. Examples of past talks:

A huge thank you to Trident Bookstore for hosting us :) Once you arrive, make your way upstairs to the event space at the front of the 2nd floor bookstore. The closest T stop is Hynes Convention Center Station on the Green line. There is also metered parking on the street. We will start promptly at 6:07pm and will end punctually at 9:04pm.

As an experiment to help folks get to know each other, the day before the event I'll ask you to (optionally) submit 1 "ask" and 1 "give" in your RSVP. An "ask" is something you'd like to request to receive from the other attendees, and a "give" is something you'd like to offer to the other attendees.

These shouldn't be fancy; here are some real example asks and gives from previous Learning Nights (feel free to steal any of these, or come up with your own):

Learning Night - January Edition

People overestimate what they can do in a day, but underestimate what they can do in a year.

If, like me, you've procrastinated too hard on your new year's resolution and haven't done any end-of-year self-reflection yet, this is the perfect opportunity to come together to co-create focused, energizing goals for 2023!

 broadly agrees that goals have (at least) four important effects:

 have goals. Any rough sense you have of what you'd like to happen, on any timescale, is a goal. We're here to help you clarify some of the big goals that you want to organize your life around.

🚋 The closest T stop is Porter Sq on the Red Line. You can also use Magoun Sq on the Green Line. There is one small bike rack on the side of the building. Learning Night - June Edition

Ever wanted to have more fun (lightly facilitated) conversations with other friends and fans of Learning Night? I'm hosting a meet-n-greet picnic at Magazine Beach on Sunday July 23rd, with a smaller, more intimate crowd this time :) Feel free to bring games or musical instruments 🎶

There won't be a formal dinner, but I'll provide name tags, refreshing sparkling beverages, light snacks, and interesting conversations (of course!) You're welcome to bring drinks or snacks of your own to share but this is not required.

I'm really excited to introduce great people who are curious and open-minded to each other! My favourite part of the night is when we do icebreakers. Have you ever been at a party and wished you could have met even more new, fun, interesting people? Name tags and ice breakers make it easy to do that. Hope to see you soon!
