Our Soapbox Project August Action Hour theme is civic engagement!
We are partnering with Third Act and Create Protest to host an intergenerational postcard-writing party to mobilize voters for the November 2024 election. Activate America will be helping us with our scripts!
Who: YOU, your friends, your family (kids and elders highly encouraged!)
What: a postcard writing party that involves connecting with others at our gathering, learning about some key context that matters to democracy + our planet, and taking action together! this will be an INTERACTIVE event because Soapbox's whole thing is building joyful community spaces for climate action so we're excited to see and hear you!
When: Wednesday August 7th at 5:30pm PST/8:30pm EST. Agenda is below!
Where: a lil zoom link which you'll get access to once you sign up. FEEL FREE TO HOST PEOPLE AT YOUR HOUSE or take this call to a local joint and get your geographic community involved. We will be all set up for that!
Why: u know why
Bring: 10-20 postcards and stamps per person! Create Protest works with local artists to make postcards, so we encourage you to buy from them if you don't already have some. You can also download and print your own from Third Act here.
Our postcard party plan (please read)
5 mins | dance party, get water, BREATHE, settle in
10 mins | connection activity! share your favorite memes and/or optimism for this election. we will have some prompts for you to make new friends! p.s. we are not ignoring any despair/pessimism, but we will talk about that in the afterparty
10 mins | hear about your new friends' experiences writing to voters in the past, plus more about Soapbox Project, Third Act, Activate America, and Create Protest!
25 mins | action time!! we'll go through a script and instructions and give you everything you need (other than postcards + stamps; please make sure you have those)
10 min | closing reflections and next steps. how do you feel? what's next for you? any actions YOU want to share?
and then at 6:30 PST / 9:30 EST, we will transition to our AFTERPARTY!! We'll stop the recording and hang out and process, chit chat, be silly, anything we want to do
