Open Lab: March 12, 2025
Hey everyone!
LAST WEEK: Kurt guided our warm-up with a focus on skeletal awareness, encouraging free bone movement and expression. This brought up thoughts on how to balance individual freedom while staying present within a group score, how we can surrender control and be patient rather than trying to "make things happen" when we get bored.
Here's an improv structure we tried:
Two dancers on the floor at any time
One person creating resonant sounds with the metal sheet
A fourth person adding vocal improvisations transmitted through the metal sheet (making it a duet as well!)
A fifth person controlling the heartbeat bass rhythm via the EMG device, modulating tempo through movement and breath
THIS WEEK: We're introducing smart rings capable of pitch shifting based on spatial positioning.
Our call remains open for additional musical instruments we could sample!
Join us: Wednesday, March 12, 7-8:30 pm at ODC Annex
