Swap or Swab?

Hi Sprinkles Parents,

How many times have you had to swab yourself? What about your kids? With the mask mandate being lifted this past week, will there be more swabbing or less swabbing in our future? It’s surprising that no one has invented a lollipop - or something more kid friendly - for Covid testing; trying to get that small cotton swab up their noses is impossible!

But enough about swab-bing, let’s talk about swap-ping. Kids tend to play with the same few toys any given week, and read the same few books over and over again. While going to the library is such a fun activity (seriously, try it; my 3-year old LOVES it), it’s sometimes hard to keep the library’s books separated from all the other ones, and even more, trying to make sure your kid doesn’t RIP any of the pages in the book that you don’t even own! Sometimes, it seems like there should be a happy medium to create a win-win for your little one.

Here at Sprinkles Parents, we’re all about trying to find those wins and foster happy mediums. In this case, swapping and rotating toys/books with other families accomplishes just that. Here’s how/why:

After a Sprinkles Parents toy swap event has concluded, all remaining toys that aren’t chosen (sorry Woody and Buzz) are donated to La Clinica for low income families. Did you know that 2,200 babies in Oakland are born into poverty per year?

  1. You are doing your Spring Cleaning and creating more space in your home!

  2. Leaving our toy swap with a new toy makes for an easy transition because there’s no fighting when you leave the event, and you get your little one excited about an entirely new toy!

Come join our next two swaps:

2/26 Toy Swap- 10am at Avenue Terrace Playground (back by popular demand). Coffee, connection and fun!

3/19 Beer and Book Swap- 4pm at Rose’s Taproom (Did you know the owners are parents of little ones too?)

Tips/Tricks for our swap events:

  • Please bring your items to be swapped in a box or in bags so your kids don’t freak out seeing them packed away.

  • Items are laid out and other kids can come by and grab a toy/book, so kids won’t realize that other kids are playing with their toy (it worked beautifully last time we had 0% crying in 2 hours by all kids)
