This is a bi-weekly newsletter of curated actionable insights and resources for underestimated founders, funders, and friends. We're 13,387 strong and growing.

ICYMI: Silicon Valley Bank is our VIP LaaS Q1 2022 sponsor and our next LaaS Fireside Chat happens 1/10 with David Spinks, Co-founder of CMX (Acq by Bevy), and author of The Business of Belonging! RSVP here.

Brittany Davis (Backstage Capital), Lindsey Hoell and Maia Tekle (Dispatch Goods, port co), & Trinity Mouzon Wofford (Golde, port co)

Welcome to 2022! Let’s kick off with resolutions (and keeping them 😅). Did you know that 46% of people want to improve their health and 49% want to work on wealth? But according to the US News & World Report, we fail to keep to our resolutions 80% of the time. The most often cited reason for failing to adhere to our goals is loss of motivation.

And since wealth is likely part of your 2022 goals and wealth is the thing I work on every day as an investor, I want to help you by spending time writing about money in, at least, the next several newsletter issues.

So, for today, let’s get into some basic money questions:

What’s your relationship with money? Do you see money as something evil that only greedy people want? Do you think about money as a resource to give your family what they need, make your dreams come true, etc? I was raised believing in the former but now I believe in the latter.

What are your 2022 money goals? Ideally, the best thing to do is to take care of the basics: pay off any high-interest debt/loans, budget for living expenses, set up an emergency fund, invest in your retirement account, and then you can start thinking about what else you want to do with your money (e.g., taking a trip, investing, etc.) For Josh and me, this year our money goals are aligned with the latter and making sure my family is taken care of.

What will happen when you achieve your money goals? For us, it’ll be achieving financial health, feeling less stressed, and doing some fun things with our extra money, like investing in underestimated founders and funders!

Disclaimer: I share my perspective above and yet I’m not a licensed financial advisor and advise you to do your own due diligence before making money moves.
