We’re excited to host a special workshop with Japanese calligrapher Sugano Matsusaki at our studio in Amsterdam! Discover the harmony of flowers and Japanese calligraphy—Shodō—where each brushstroke becomes a reflection of the heart.

◻︎ About Sugano Matsusaki
Sugano Matsusaki is a calligrapher from Okinawa, Japan, with over 25 years of experience.
Her work is rooted in traditional techniques, yet it opens a dialogue between discipline and intuition.
Through her brushwork, lines echo with rhythm and evoke the contours of a landscape.
◻︎ About Shodō
Calligraphy, or Shodo, is the art of writing with brush and ink—a quiet, introspective practice rooted in the philosophy that beauty arises from simplicity, balance, and the deep connection between breath and body movement.
◻︎ Workshop Highlights
Create your own one-of-a-kind piece by combining calligraphy and flowers. Choose from:
・Mini Japanese garden box with Shodō: Price: 90€
Place a single fresh flower in the quiet little garden and pair it with your written word. (*Tatami base is not included.)
A word in the sample photo: “Wind”
・Kakejiku (hanging scroll): Price: 85€
Write your message directly on a traditional scroll and decorate it with dried flowers. (38×21 cm)

・Seasonal flower bouquet with Shodō: 80€
Take home a fresh bouquet from Mui and a calligraphy card—perfect as a heartfelt gift.

*If you wish to write several characters, you can add a postcard-sized calligraphy piece for an additional €5.

Before the session, share with us a word or phrase you love—or something you’d like to gift to someone. We’ll translate it into Japanese, and you’ll write it yourself during the workshop.
