design your 2025 climate action adventure (ft. Seattle's youngest city council member)
Make friends who care about stuff at Soapbox Seattle, the city's most fun community space for climate action!
TLDR: January's theme is climate futurism. We're having a party for people who care about the planet. You're invited.
Wish you had more fun things to do on a Tuesday night than to doomscroll on social media?
Wish there were third places in Seattle where you can make friends without feeling weird about it?
Wish you could do something to take care of our one and only beautiful home?
Well, well, well. Aren't you in luck! Soapbox Project is a Seattle-based nonprofit that builds joyful community spaces for climate action. (We call these "vibraries" because why not.) We know how lonely and anxiety-inducing the world can be, so we're creating experiences that transform these feelings into meaningful change.
We make it simple for you to connect, learn, act, and reflect on important topics while making new friends!
The best part? It's every. single. Tuesday. evening. AND we serve you dinner!
Hi! I'm Nivi Achanta, one of your vibrarians.
I'm excited to announce that in January, our vibrary's theme is ✨climate futurism✨ which basically means we'll get to explore what the future of our dreams (healthy! joyful! resilient! equitable! super cute!) looks like.
On Jan 21th, we'll ACT on the topic of climate futurism through a few guided advocacy exercises and a very special guest!
Activities will start at 6:35ish so do your best to arrive before then!
6-6:30 | arrive, put your stuff down, grab a lil drink, and relaaaxx with some casual chit chat or introvert time—whatever brings you joy!
6:30-7:00 | eat a delicious planet-friendly/plant-based dinner with your new friends
7:00-7:30 | meet Alexis Mercedes Rinck, Seattle's youngest council member! She'll set the stage for what advocacy actually makes a difference, how to engage with local government, and how to boost your efficacy
7:30-9 | ACT with your new friends. You'll get to rotate through three stations: writing to city council (or speaking with Alexis!), doing our tradition of Better World Bingo (we'll explain), OR you can bring your own creative solarpunk project (got a climate fiction novella you've been meaning to write forever?)
You’ll leave with new friends, new information, and the knowledge that just by showing up, you’ve made a huge difference towards a healthy planet 💚
This event is hosted by Soapbox Project, a nonprofit that creates joyful community spaces to heal our climate anxiety and loneliness through expertly facilitated connection, learning, and action activities. Find your place in the climate movement with our online and in-person community! I’m the founder, Nivi Achanta.
P.S. want a sneak peek for the rest of January on climate futurism?
Sneak peek: each month follows a connect-learn-act-reflect sequence. After this one, we're 3/4ths done! On 1/28, we'll do some solarpunk moodboarding.
