create a solarpunk future with new friends | soapbox seattle launch party
Make friends who care about stuff at Soapbox Seattle, the city's most fun community space for climate action!
TLDR: January's theme is climate futurism. We're having a party for people who care about the planet. You're invited.
Wish you had more fun things to do on a Tuesday night than to doomscroll on social media?
Wish there were third places in Seattle where you can make friends without feeling weird about it?
Wish you could do something to take care of our one and only beautiful home?
Well, well, well. Aren't you in luck! Soapbox Project is a Seattle-based nonprofit that builds joyful community spaces for climate action. (We call these "vibraries" because why not.) We know how lonely and anxiety-inducing the world can be, so we're creating experiences that transform these feelings into meaningful change.
We make it simple for you to connect, learn, act, and reflect on important topics while making new friends!
The best part? It's every. single. Tuesday. evening. AND we serve you dinner!
Hi! I'm Nivi Achanta, one of your vibrarians.
I'm excited to announce that in January, our vibrary's theme is ✨climate futurism✨ which basically means we'll get to explore what the future of our dreams (healthy! joyful! resilient! equitable! super cute!) looks like.
On Jan 7th, we'll CONNECT on the topic of climate futurism through an immersive solarpunk concert paired with a community dinner!
Nivi, what the heck is an immersive solarpunk concert??, you may ask. Basically, our incredibly talented earth-loving musician friend is going to play a set for you, and between songs, he'll guide you through a few conversation prompts. It'll be cool, trust me.
More details for people who love details
All you need to bring is yourself and your best vibes. Bonus points if you bring a friend. Many of us will be following the dress code of "future earth fashion" so you can interpret that however you wish (as long as you don't buy new stuff).
Activities will start at 6:35ish so do your best to arrive before then!
6-6:30 | arrive, put your stuff down, grab a lil drink, and relaaaxx with some casual chit chat or introvert time—whatever brings you joy!
6:30-7:00 | meet and greet some incredible local artists in Seattle who are imagining the future! We'll have activities for extroverts and introverts alike.
7:00-8 | eat a delicious planet-friendly/plant-based dinner with your new friends while listening to a solarpunk concert.
8-9 | CONNECT with your new friends. You'll have time to mix and mingle and swap contact information. We'll have some prompts for you to think about if you aren't much of an automatic socializer.
You’ll leave with new friends, new information, and the knowledge that just by showing up, you’ve made a huge difference towards a healthy planet 💚
This event is hosted by Soapbox Project, a nonprofit that creates joyful community spaces to heal our climate anxiety and loneliness through expertly facilitated connection, learning, and action activities. Find your place in the climate movement with our online and in-person community! I’m the founder, Nivi Achanta.
P.S. want a sneak peek for the rest of January on climate futurism?
Sneak peek: each month follows a connect-learn-act-reflect sequence. So on 1/14, you'll learn about climate futurism thanks to a Q&A we're hosting with Future Arts. On 1/21, we'll have City Councilwoman Alexis Mercedes Rinck to guide us through how we can actually advocate for change, followed by our annual tradition of making Better World Bingo cards. On 1/28, we'll do some solarpunk moodboarding.
