Session 2: Mechanics of Fundraising

This session will cover the legal and regulatory considerations for startups, along with an in-depth look at SAFEs (Simple Agreements for Future Equity) and convertible notes. Gain insights into the components, benefits and negotiation strategies of these funding mechanisms, as well as the intricacies of priced equity rounds, including valuation, investment terms, and managing investor expectations. 


About the Presenters

Kate Grant is passionate about technology, entrepreneurship and showcasing Canada as an innovation leader. With a background in ecosystem development, strategy, VC, innovation and product, she has successfully helped build and grow early-stage companies throughout her career.

Satnam Singh Dosanjh is an associate in the firm’s Emerging Technology and Venture Capital group with experience in all aspects of private and public commercial transactions. He represents both investors and founders of early-stage companies, guiding them from the organizational stage through various rounds of financing, and ultimately towards successful exits or initial public offerings (IPOs).
