Welcome to HackOS 3: Exploring DeepSeek!
This is the registration page for the Waterloo hacking site. Visit the McGill HackOS 3 site if you'd like to register for our McGill event!
What is HackOS?
A student-run machine learning build blitz to create models, aiming to beat various benchmarks for open access research topics, co-hosted between the University of Waterloo and McGill University! Feel free to join the HackOS Discord for more information.
Who can join?
This hackathon is geared towards students, researchers, and recent graduates. We welcome participants of all skill levels, whether you're writing code for the first time, or are a seasoned developer. If you're joining from outside the University, please send us a message, and we'll do our best to accommodate!
What is happening?
We'll be playing around with the recently open-sourced DeepSeek-R1 model, while trying to retain its performance on various benchmarks. You can build solo, as a team, or even use pre-existing work for this hackathon!
We'll also be writing a collaborative paper on any exciting findings we make, that we may submit to the arXiv, and to the ICLR Workshop on Foundation Models.
Do I have attend in-person the entire duration of the event?
Though it'd be awesome if you could join us on-site for the weekend, we understand that's a big commitment. Feel free to drop by and hack whenever it suits you (or asynchronously, if you'd like!)—we just ask that you try to be on-site for the kickoff and the demos.
