About Event

In this talk, we will explore the application and implications of Large Language Models (LLMs) in drug discovery and healthcare, focusing on the blend of opportunities and challenges they present. We will discuss the role of LLMs in enhancing predictive analysis and streamlining the identification of drug candidates, exemplified by Recursion's innovations, including the development of their LLM-Orchestrated Workflow Engine (LOWE). We will address some of the key scientific, engineering and ethical considerations and challenges surrounding LLM use in drug discovery and healthcare applications. The presentation aims to provide a balanced view of how LLMs are shaping the future of medical research and patient care, highlighting both their transformative potential and the hurdles that need to be overcome to maximize their impact in the field.

Ali Madani (Sr. ML Scientist @ Recursion)

Ali Madani is a machine learning specialist with a focus on Biotechnology and Techbio. Holding a PhD from the University of Toronto, his research has applied machine learning to cancer genomics and epigenomics, complemented by master's degrees in Mathematics and Applied Sciences from the University of Waterloo. Ali’s scholarly output includes over 20 publications in prestigious journals and conferences, highlighting his expertise in developing machine learning models for complex biological and chemical data.

His tenure as the Director of Machine Learning at Cyclica was marked by contributions to the chemistry aspect of drug discovery, whereas his role at Recursion Pharmaceuticals has centered on the biological facets, showcasing his versatility in applying computational methods across the drug development spectrum.

Ali is also committed to educating others about machine learning. He authored "Debugging Machine Learning Models with Python" and has been recognized as a Top Machine Learning Voice on LinkedIn for his active engagement and mentorship in the field. Ali Madani exemplifies the integration of machine learning with biotechnology, driving innovations in drug discovery
