Quality Inclusive Education: A South African Perspective: Global Exchange

  • Virtual Exchange Program

  • College of DuPage

  • Thursday April 11 & April 18

  • 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. In-Person on COD Main Campus

This program is FREE for College of DuPage students. Students who complete this experience and submit a reflection as part of their portfolio will earn a "GLOBAL LEADERSHIP" designation on their Living Leadership Program Certificate.

-------------------------------------

College of DuPage students are invited to participate in a Virtual Exchange Program hosted by the Living Leadership Program in partnership with EDU Africa!

What is the topic?

The South African constitution states that all citizens have a right to basic education. The reality is that inequality is still entrenched in the education system in South Africa, with many students facing barriers that prevent them from accessing mainstream public education.

What is a Virtual Exchange Program?

This program consists of two meetings (1 week apart) where students will be speaking directly with contributors engaged in environmental justice work - you will be able to hear their stories first-hand, their successes, and their challenges. Participation in BOTH sessions is REQUIRED.

What will we learn?

The first session explores the obstacles to education in South Africa while also challenging participants to critically evaluate access to, and the value of, education in their own communities. Session two highlights an example of an African solution to educational inequality through discussions with a local education organization. Interactions will include both South African professionals and students, and invite participants to discover the transcontinental value of education and seek possible global solutions for equitable access.

Participation Requirements

Students will be provided with materials to review in advance of session 1 in order to fully participate in the session. Information will be provided in the registration process.

Attendance is required at both sessions. Space is LIMITED to 25 students.
