What is a Skills for Bridging the Divide Workshop?
In our current polarized political environment, many people avoid or dread political conversations with friends or family members whose politics differ from their own. They worry, rightly so, that any attempts at political discussions will devolve into arguments and acrimony, and result in hurt feelings or anger.

Braver Angels Skills for Bridging the Divide Workshops teach skills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences, search for common ground, and affirm the importance of the relationship. They also give participants a safe environment to practice those skills.

This 2-part workshop will teach you how to communicate better with people who differ from you politically. At the end of this training, we hope you will:

  • Understand what it takes to have constructive, non-polarizing conversations between people who disagree politically;

  • Walk away with a toolkit of tactics to have more successful conversations, and;

  • Feel motivated to have these conversations in your social network.

Step 1: Register: https://lu.ma/BAsp24

Step 2: Attend the in-person workshops. The in-person workshops will take 1 hour and 15 minutes on Wednesday, April 3 from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

This opportunity is sponsored by the College of DuPage COD Votes group in partnership with Braver Angels.

What is COD Votes? COD Votes is a cross-institutional group of College of DuPage students, staff, faculty, and community members working to increase nonpartisan civic learning and engagement in the democratic process.

What is Braver Angels? We are a national movement to bridge the partisan divide. We’re equally balanced between conservatives and progressives at every level of leadership. We work in communities, on college campuses, in the media, and in the halls of political power. Our strength comes from our members and most of our work is done by patriotic volunteers.
