Tech Talk 1: How Vector Databases are Revolutionizing Unstructured Data Search in AI Applications

Abstract: Powered by the popularity of ChatGPT, Llama2, and other LLMs, we've seen a huge surge in interest for vector databases in 2023 and 2024. Vector databases are commonly used to connect relevant documents with LLMs, through a process called retrieval augmented generation (RAG). RAG has seen widespread adoption, from single-person startups to Fortune 500 companies.
Despite the popularity of vector databases for LLMs, they are more broadly applicable for a variety of different types of unstructured data, i.e. any type of data that does not conform to a predefined data model, such as text, images, audio, molecules, and graphs. In this talk, we'll discuss some of the use cases for vector databases across many types of unstructured data.
