Bree Street Closure (weekly)
Bree Street Closure Every Sunday
Join us for a new openstreetscapetown inspired open streets activation every Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM along Bree Street, including Shortmarket St, where we’re inviting Capetonians to reclaim public space and reimagine a safer, more pedestrian-friendly city.
This initiative is supported by the Mayor's office and is not classified as an event—it’s part of a new approach to using tools to create safer streets through temporary installations and hands-on activities to see what works and what doesn’t.
When: Every Sunday
Time: 10 AM - 5 PM
First Date: 27 October
Where: Bree Street (Wale to Strand, including Shortmarket St)

Activities* - this changes weekly. Have an idea write to us or join our WhatsApp group.
Every Sunday, Bree Street becomes a car-free, people-first space filled with community activities—think live performances, games, cycling clinics, art installations, and more. While the lineup may change each week, you can always expect a lively, welcoming atmosphere that brings people together to enjoy the heart of the city in new ways. Keep an eye out for updates as we add fresh experiences and surprises every week!
Whether you’re walking, cycling, or skating, everyone is welcome! Bring your family and friends to be part of this interactive activation running through Transportation Month and beyond.
Let’s reimagine the streets we share, together! *No loud music, no commercial stalls—just community, creativity, and safe, open streets.
