Creative Mending & Repair
Get ready to mend and repair with us and Hillary O’Dell of @eclecticedit! In this workshop, we’ll learn how to restore and refresh our existing garments—an essential part of creating a more sustainable (and unique) wardrobe. No sewing experience required.
A few of the techniques we’ll cover:
Repairing seams by hand with Ladder stitch and invisible stitch.
Visible mending and reinforcement for worn areas using Sashiko (Japanese stitching technique) for decorative mending
Darning by hand to fix holes
Creating and attaching patches using hand sewing
In the second part of the workshop, you'll have the opportunity to apply the techniques you've learned to your own garments, or practice on swatches, in a collaborative co-creation session. Whether you're repairing a favorite pair of jeans or simply looking to enhance your skills, this is a space to get creative and make your clothing truly your own. ✨👕
Folks are encouraged to bring an item or two in need of repair. Rips and holes welcome (duh), but please make sure that any personal items you bring are laundered prior to class.
MASK REMINDER
The Collaboratory is a *Masks Required* space. 😷 We also run two air filters/purifiers during our gatherings. If you don't arrive with a mask, don't worry—we'll have them available at the door.
If you're not feeling well or have reason to believe you've been exposed to COVID, please consider staying home. COVID is real y'all, let's keep each other safe. 😷
