About Event

In partnership with the Biomedical Scholars Association, this workshop will provide an overview of grant opportunities from non-federal government agencies to support life science research and training. It will emphasize opportunities for doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars who identify as international and/or with an underrepresented community in the life sciences.

This workshop will highlight the structure of grants at different funding agencies (i.e. non-profit or scientific societies), as well as considerations related to finding opportunities, beginning the first draft, and understanding eligibility and other requirements.

A portion of this workshop will be working on drafting a short summary statement for a potential research project/grant, as well as working in real-time with resources to find an opportunity to apply for.

At the end of this event, attendees will:

1. Understand the foundational principles of successful grant writing, including the key components of a grant proposal, the grant application process and timeline, and the criteria used by various non-federal funding agencies to evaluate proposals for international scholars or for those from an underrepresented community in the life sciences.

2. Practice skills to effectively communicate their research ideas and plans in writing, including clearly articulating the significance of their research.

3. Identify current grant opportunities that they may apply for.

This event is in-person and will be live streamed.
