About Event

Now more than ever, learning from nature's time-tested strategies is essential for tackling environmental challenges and the climate crisis. As Los Angeles Climate Week begins, we invite you to a refreshing morning gathering at the Arlington Garden, in Pasadena. Hosted by Anne Laforti from Biomimicry 3.8, Maëlys Renaud from The Biomimicry Institute, and Colin Mangham from USGBC-California and Biomimicry LA, this event will take place on Monday, September 9th, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Join us to connect with fellow biomimicry enthusiasts, bio-inspired researchers, innovators, and thought leaders. We're especially excited to welcome Gary Lai, landscape architect, and leading expert in sustainability, resiliency, conservation, and nature-based solutions. As Chair of the Board of Directors for the US Green Building Council, California (USGBC-CA), Gary will share a brief yet inspiring talk to spark our discussions. Together, we’ll explore how nature-inspired solutions can pave the way toward solving the urgent environmental challenges of our time.

This friendly event is an opportunity to network, share ideas, and set the tone for a week of impactful climate action. Whether you're involved in the biomimicry community, doing bio-inspired work, or curious about nature-inspired innovation, we would love to have you join us. Let's start LA Climate Week on a positive and inspiring note—together!

Please bring your own coffee mug, and/or personal reusable water bottle. There are limited chairs, so bring your own folding chairs.

The event has limited capacity, so RSVP is required. Please let us know if you can no longer attend.

Parking: Street parking is limited but available in the residential neighborhood. We encourage you to carpool/rideshare or transit where possible. The Arlington Garden is a 20 min walk from Fillmore Station (under 1 mile).

Gratitudes: We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Arlington Garden for offering space for this event. Arlington Garden is a three-acre, non-profit public garden founded in 2005 in Pasadena, serving as a peaceful refuge for people, pets, and native wildlife, including birds, bees, and butterflies. Open daily and free to the public, it showcases regenerative gardening techniques and is supported by the community and local organizations.

Our ask: Arlington Garden is launching its "We Are An Oak" campaign to create a new gathering space in honor of its 20th anniversary and in memory of its founders, Betty and Charles McKenney. This space will serve as a vital hub for community workshops, student field trips, and discussions, built around a table crafted from a beloved coast live oak that once graced the garden. We invite you to join us in supporting this meaningful project and donate to help Arlington Garden continue to thrive as a community treasure.
