Immerse yourself in the world of traditional Korean culture through our beginner dance and drumming workshops. Designed for adult newcomers of all ages, this workshop will introduce fundamental movements, rhythms, techniques, and history for anyone wanting to explore these ancient art forms—no prior experience is required. Whether you're seeking to reconnect with your Korean heritage, to build community, or to find a new creative outlet, our KIBON class is the place to start. Come with an open heart and a willingness to learn as we celebrate the beauty and vibrancy of Korean heritage through movement and music.

How many workshop sessions will there be?
We will be holding four sessions on 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, and 9/29.
Do I need to attend all four sessions?
Students can drop into as many or as few sessions as they would like.
How much will each session cost to attend?
These workshops will be free to attend!
Do I need to be Korean / speak Korean to attend?
Folks of all backgrounds are welcome. Workshops will primarily be taught in Korean, but English-speaking assistants will aid in translation.
What are the COVID protocols?
Masks will be optional but always encouraged. Please protect your community and stay home if you are not feeling well!
Do I need any prior experience?
No! Complete beginners are welcome to join us.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable work-out clothes and socks. Additional gear may be purchased in person.
Where can I park?
Street parking is available in the vicinity. Please enter through the garage entrance on Gramercy Place and take the elevator up to level 2.
Are these workshops gender-inclusive?
These beginner workshops are open to all gender identities. Please note that our additional dance class offerrings are currently for femme-identifying folk only. Our drumming classes are open to all gender identities.
Are these workshops all ages?
Our workshops are open to all 16+.

Dance Instructor
As an internationally recognized, award-winning choreographer, Soon Young Lee brings over 50 years of experience and expertise to KTDIC. Lee received classical Korean traditional dance and music training at Chung Ang Univeristy in Seoul, South Korea and has danced for the National Dance Company of Korea. She has performed in many countries across Asia, Europe, and Latin America; at large international events including the 1994 World Cup Opening Ceremonies; and for many Heads of State. Her work and commitment to the community has been recognized by the Consul General of the Republic of Korea, the city of Los Angeles, and the Obama Administration. Lee also holds exclusive certifications to teach dances officially designated as Intangible Cultural Property by South Korea's Cultural Heritage Administration.
✨KYOUNG AH LEE✨
Drum Instructor
A distinguished figure in the world of traditional Korean percussion, Kyoung Ah Lee is renowned for her extensive expertise as both an instructor and performer. She is a student of Gyeongi-do's renowned Kim Deok-soo Samulnori ensemble and graduated from the traditional percussion department of Baekje University of Arts in 1998 with a certification for teaching in musical practice. She has performed with several prominent Samulnori teams in both Korea and the U.S., including 'GGOK-DU’ in Gyeonggi-do, Suwon and ‘Nori’ in Los Angeles, CA. Kyoung Ah’s passion for sharing the beauty of traditional Korean percussion has led her to teaching students of all ages for over 20 years. She is currently KTDIC’s lead samulnori and sangmo instructor.
