About Event

We live in a time of huge ongoing developments in cutting-edge AI and expert opinions suggesting AI needs more governance to reduce the risk of an AI catastrophe.

If you're also concerned about this (or want to better understand what the fuss is about) come join us at Newspeak House for an evening of talks and discussion on what might happen next and what we should do about it!

Speakers are currently being confirmed (contact the host if you would like to speak at this event)

This event is intended for those with an active interest in AI governance & policy, but no deep background in the topic is expected of attendees.

Event Schedule:

7:00 PM - 7:30 PM - Welcome & Introduction
Drinks and snacks will be provided

7:30 PM - 9:00 PM - Lightning talks
5-10 minute talks from several speakers including:

Connor Axiotes, Director of Communications & Research Lead for Resilience, Risk and State Capacity at the Adam Smith Institute who will talk about How to, and how not to, sell AI risk to legislators

Clíodhna Ní Ghuidhir, who has spent several years advising on the use of digital technology in the health system, will talk about how the devil is not in the written detail; policy failure lessons for AI governance proposals.

Ture Hinrichsen, Head of Science & Innovation and Cross-Government Strategy at the UK's Office for AI who will talk about the work of the Office for AI

Six’ Silberman works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford and will outline Eight hypotheses on AI governance

Olivia Jimenez, a strategy and governance researcher at Conjecture. She will be talking about a proposed regulatory framework for advanced AI.

Nathan Young, a forecaster who builds tools to help us predict better. He's currently interviewing AI experts

David Kristoffersson, CEO of Convergence Analysis will talk about his organisation's plans to do impactful AI strategy work

Sam Hilton has worked in the UK government on nuclear safety regulation and financial stability regulation. He now works for Charity Entrepreneurship. He will be talking about what is known about how to regulate new technologies and prevent disasters.

9:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Discussions with speakers
Speakers will be available for discussions in smaller groups

9:30 PM - 10:30 PM - Casual discussion
