Intro to MycoTechnique for Creative Use: A Demonstration of How to Grow Mushroom Materials
This workshop will demonstrate how to grow and process fungal materials for creative use. We’ll also explore how fungal materials might move into widespread adoption through accelerated open research. We’ll bring materials samples and answer questions. Presented by Phil Ross and Rachel Linzer of Open Fung, an artist- and scientist-led organization that fosters deep engagement with fungi through applied research and the arts.
Philip Ross is an artist, inventor and entrepreneur whose work is focused on the relationships between human beings and the greater living environment. Philip is the Co-Founder and Principal Investigator at Open Fung- an organization that builds collective resources for advancing fungi technology, materials and the arts. In 2013, he co-founded MycoWorks, a company that grows biomaterials out of mycelium
Rachel Linzer has been applying biology to understand and protect our environment and contribute to human health for over two decades. Passionate about fungal possibility, she was dedicated to developing sustainable fungal biomaterials as a principal scientist at MycoWorks, and she is currently Co-Founder and Co-Director of Science at Open Fung – an artist- and scientist-led non-profit founded to accelerate applied mycological innovation. Her PhD research focused on tree pathogens in less-managed forest ecosystems, and her other research in industry and academia ranges from cellular agriculture to bacterial pathogenesis and cancer immunotherapeutics.
