Typolitics with Zainab Marvi and Jan-Henning Raff

What can typefaces reveal about history, politics, and identity? From the political uproar over the Calibri font that played a role in the downfall of Pakistan’s government in 2017 to the imposition of English over Urdu—and Urdu over regional languages—the use of scripts and typefaces carries significance far beyond aesthetics.

This input by Zainab Marvi talk explores the entanglements of type with imperial legacies, digital interfaces, and sociopolitical narratives.

After the input we will discuss, and Jan-Henning Raff will show some material from the streets of Berlin reflecting Typolitics.

Join us to connect with other communication design researchers.
