Community and Preventative Health - Research Town Hall
Dear Research Community,
Protecting the communities that we serve, share, and live in are essential for the progression of human life and wellness. Being in community with people who share interests, values, and beliefs can have a profound impact on our lives and help us develop a sense of belonging and identity. Our communities protect us. They make us feel safe, that we have a place in the world, and that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
Researchers at the University of Utah uniquely understands and demonstrates the value in serving and protecting our local, national, and global communities. We understand that communities look different and have different needs. We also understand that the strength of our communities comes from the care we provide them – that our physical, social, and mental health are integral to our ability to thrive.
To that end, we invite all faculty, research staff, and researchers are invited to a 1-hour virtual brainstorming session and town hall to consider the formation of a University of Utah Community and Preventative Health research initiative. An initiative focused on Community and Preventative Health research would help researchers across campus explore resources, opportunities, and funding related to shared interests and goals in the community and preventative health research. A brief definition of this research space is provided below.
The town hall will take place on Thursday, November 7th, 2024, from 12:00pm – 1:00pm (MST). This is a virtual meeting, hosted over Zoom. Meeting access details will be provided to those who RSVP.
Please RSVP for this event in advance. After completing the RSVP form, Luma will automatically send a calendar invite with the below information and Zoom link.
We encourage attendance and participation from all areas of campus. All University of Utah research faculty, staff, students, post-docs, community/partners welcome to attend this event. Faculty already engaged in community and preventative health research are strongly encouraged to attend and share ideas/resources. Please share with all interested parties. Questions can be directed to vprgrants@utah.edu. We look forward to seeing you at the town hall. Thank you!

Community and Preventive Health research examines health promotion and lifestyle behavior change from a holistic perspective that includes physical, social, and mental health with an emphasis on clinical and community engagement. This research works to prevent disease across the lifespan through the development of community-clinic, community-campus, campus-clinic, and community-clinic-campus partnerships.
The Town Hall is an opportunity to gather input on the current state of Community and Prevention Health research on campus. Some goals of the event include: identifying potential theme areas, discussing strengths and barriers in pursuing this research at the U, hearing from existing work on campus in this space, and determine whether there is interest and momentum in building a formalized University-wide hub/working group/other research initiative at the University of Utah to support this work.
