La Sobremesa presents: on the way to jip
Where is home when no place calls me back?
This question began a quiet search. A search for belonging, memory, and a feeling Moon Seungsung could hold onto. Through Miyeok-guk and on the way to jip, she pieces together moments of connection: with her parents, with language, and with places she once left behind.
“These films were made through touch… hand-processed frames, fragments of conversations reimagined as poetry, and moments shaped by sound when words felt too distant.”
We’d love to invite you to an evening that’s not just about watching films, but about feeling with them.
Alongside Moon’s work, we’ll also be screening over land flow by Matt Trumfield, a supporting artist and someone whose artistic voice has closely aligned with Moon’s throughout this process. His film traces the movement of water. Its rhythms, silences, and life… and speaks to the way things shift, carry, and reshape us.
The evening will also feature live music led by composer Sohee Baek, whose original score helped shape on the way to jip. Her work blends traditional Korean rhythms and breath with contemporary instrumentation, creating a space where sound becomes memory.
Performers
Lauren Peck (Saxophone)
Euan Su (Violin)
Seungyeon Lee (Guitar)
Kangsan Lee (traditional Korean percussion)
Sohee Baek (Piano)
All tickets include a drink and snacks.
After the screenings, there will be a Q&A with Moon Seungsung.
Please join us for a quiet gathering of films, music, and reflection. Let's sit together in the in-between.
