Toronto’s climate risks from heatwaves to flooding are increasing in frequency and intensity. While many groups are responding, siloed efforts mean we’re not unlocking our collective potential. In a recent article, discussing the impacts of climate change, David Suzuki said “the units of survival are going to be local communities”, and called for communities to work together to be prepared.

Climate Resilient Communities (https://crc.place) invites you to a Toronto Climate Week gathering designed to bridge those gaps. Together, we’ll connect the dots between sectors, share what’s working, and align our goals to strengthen community resilience in the face of climate impacts.

Event Goals:

This event will bring together diverse voices to:

  • Build stronger connections between community adaptation efforts

  • Align shared goals for a climate-resilient Toronto

  • Identify and remove barriers to collaboration

  • Commit to concrete, coordinated next steps

Event Themes:

  • Community Organizing: Strengthening grassroots capacity for local climate action

  • Emergency Preparedness: Equipping neighbourhoods for crisis response

  • Supporting Unhoused Populations: Protecting those most vulnerable to climate impacts

  • Climate Literacy: Building awareness and engagement at all levels

Event Format:

  • Research Breifings: four pillars of community adaptation

  • Interactive Workshop: breakout session on each pillar following a structured 5-stage process

    • Connect: Building understanding through shared context and experiences

    • Define: Clarifying the specific challenge or opportunity to address

    • Diverge: Exploring multiple possibilities and perspectives

    • Converge: Synthesizing insights and focusing on promising directions

    • Commit: Defining specific next steps and ownership

  • Outcome:  A set of actionable commitments to strengthen Toronto’s community-level climate adaptation, backed by the people who will carry them forward.

Target Participants

Community organizers, emergency coordinators, service providers, educators, policy makers, researchers, and engaged residents who want to help build a stronger, more resilient Toronto.
