About Event

Join us for an intimate Freethink Media salon exploring the changing space industry and what it means for all of us here on Earth. Our goal with this event series is to bring together artists, technologists, academics, engineers, designers, scientists, entrepreneurs, authors, entertainers, storytellers, and more into one space where we can meet other curious minds while expanding our own.

We will kick off the evening with an immersive art installation at Chromasonic's new studio in the Arts District.

Guests will have the opportunity to explore Chromasonic Field, a large-scale, walk-through installation and the first multi-city traveling exhibition from Chromasonic. This immersive environment of translucent screens creates interrelated spaces where light and sound merge in a mesmerizing interplay. As light ebbs and flows, algorithmically connected sound waves fill the space—color becomes audible, and sound becomes visible. Chromasonic Field offers a deeply sensory journey into the convergence of art and science.

Space is limited, so make sure you arrive early!

From there, grab a drink and some food while we dive into a conversation with Will Bruey, CEO and co-founder of Varda, an LA-based space manufacturing company, as we discuss their work and this pivotal moment in space exploration—where new technology and falling costs are unlocking unprecedented opportunities beyond Earth.

Will Bruey is the CEO and co-founder of Varda Space Industries, a microgravity-enabled life sciences company whose reentry capsules leverage the unique environment of microgravity in low Earth orbit. Prior to Varda, Will served as Director of Global Equities Technology at Bank of America. He was the lead avionics engineer at SpaceX and flew Dragon on eight missions to the International Space Station. Will holds a B.S. in Applied Physics from Cornell and a master's in Systems Engineering. He was raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and his hobbies include flying and maintaining his Cozy MK4 aircraft.

The night will culminate with a performance by musician Brianna Tam who will perform a live, looping performance with her electric cello.

Brianna Tam is a Los Angeles-based musician who uses her bare feet, her loop station, and her electric cello to envelop listeners in her mesmerizing and dynamic symphonic realm while simultaneously capturing their hearts with her charming and charismatic personality. Her gift of building and illustrating worlds through sound is exhibited in her multi-faceted career as a composer, performer, and recording artist. Brianna’s intimate, yet enthralling one-woman performances have garnered her a diverse array of opportunities including mesmerizing TEDx talk, and a grant through the National Endowment for the Arts. She was recently selected as a Top Shelf performer for NPR’s 2023 Tiny Desk Contest.

ABOUT FREETHINK MEDIA

We're reimagining media for a world defined by change.

At Freethink Media we help audiences explore the changes happening in the world around them so they can make sense of them. Our media portfolio includes Freethink – news from the frontiers of a changing world – and Big Think – lessons from the world’s biggest thinkers.

The world is changing and it's time the media changed with it. We live in a world dominated by partisan arguments, negativity and fear. And our media reflects it. The news we watch and read today has led us to become cynical about the motivations of others, overly simplistic in our thinking, certain we have all the answers, and scared of the challenges we face.

We believe that progress happens when we’re curious about new ideas, thoughtful in our exploration of complex topics, open to engaging with others, and constructive in the face of hard challenges.
