Ligare Gatherings are a new kind of social experience, designed to bring people together through games, conversation, and intentional seating. This time, we’re bringing that magic (and our special personality-based table matching) to one of Houston’s most beloved games: American Mah Jong, in partnership with The Raven Grill in Rice Village.
Whether you’ve played for years or have only admired the tiles from afar, this event is built for connection first, gameplay second. It’s not a tournament. It’s not a lesson in perfection. It’s Mah Jong as a shared ritual—a reason to meet new people, play something beautiful, and enjoy a Saturday together, at a treasured Houston neighborhood restaurant.
🀄 How the afternoon flows
Act 1 – Spark & Sip (~45 min)
We begin with light refreshments, warm welcomes, and a round of personality-forward party games—easy, quick-to-learn favorites like Chameleon, Wavelength, and Hues & Cues. These get everyone talking and laughing right away, no game expertise needed.
Act 2 – Mah Jong: Learn, Play, Connect (~1 hour)
We’ll walk you through the essentials of American Mah Jong in a friendly, step-by-step way—ideal for both first-timers and returning players who want to enjoy a new table. Our facilitators will circulate, offering help and encouragement as you settle in and play a full game with your group, with guided discussion on our trademark Spark Cards as you play.
Act 3 – The Open Table (~45–60 min)
Stick with your crew, play another round, or ease into deeper conversations with question-based "Get to know you" games. This time is yours to enjoy—at the table or mingling with new friends.

Once you RSVP, we’ll send a short Connection Profile. It takes just 10 minutes and helps us seat you thoughtfully—so everyone has a welcoming table and the best chance to connect.

Tickets become non-refundable 3 days before the event—at that point, we begin assigning tables.
