Ligare Gatherings + The Raven Grill: Saturday Mah Jong
Ligare Gatherings are a new kind of social experience, designed to spark real connection through intentional seating, welcoming games, and shared rituals. This time, we’re bringing that magic to American Mah Jong—at The Raven Grill in Rice Village.
Whether you’ve played for years or just admired the tiles from afar, this is not a tournament, and it’s not a class. It’s a social gathering, built for play, learning, and shared joy.
Some guests will be veterans. Some will be total beginners. And that’s the point.
We separate gameplay from ritual, then bring it all back together—so you can enjoy a low-pressure way in, or help someone else find theirs.
🔁 The Flow of the Afternoon
Act 1 – Spark & Sip (~45 min)
We start with a welcome drink, light party games, and table opening party games. These are simple, delightful icebreakers designed to get you talking, laughing, and meeting your tablemates—no Mah Jong knowledge required.
Act 2 – Learn & Play (~60 min)
You’ll be seated at a table tailored to your experience level. Beginners will dive right into playing their first hand (no setup tutorials required), with help from a Ligare Guide. Experienced players will get to jump right in to playing at a table designed for them.
Midway Meal Intermission
New tablemates. Good food. Light prompts. A pause to reset and refresh before going deeper.
Note that your ticket price covers the event, learning, table pairing, and personalized experience; food and beverage are available for purchase from The Raven Grill.
Act 3 – Full Ritual Mah Jong (~60+ min)
Now we bring it all together. From building the wall to picking East, tables matched for personality and vibe (not experience) will play through the full Mah Jong setup the rest of the afternoon, guided by experienced players and Ligare’s team. Whether you’re leading or learning, you’ll be part of the rhythm—and part of the fun--with time and space for multiple games.
