Drop-in: Career Tea & Coffee Session
Careers, work and navigating leadership can be lonely. So I'm trying out a new thing and hosting a 'tea & coffee' afternoon (or morning if you're in a different time zone). It'll be online, and just 30 minutes.
What will we talk about?
I think topics might range but we'll likely talk about
The work you do (or want to do)
Leadership journeys
Ways to have positive impact
Navigating career pivots
AI impacts on your work
Concerns around climate
Tough career & leadership questions
So if you feel like navigating the world of work is a bit of a lonely ride right now - come join! It won't be overly structured or held in a workshop style, but it will be a way to connect, find community and have a chat about all the things you've been thinking about around work and impact.
Why should I come along?
As our careers have become more specialised, and more online, it's harder to find others who do what we do but in another organisation. We also don't get the cross pollination and exposure to completely different fields, sectors or ways of working. Non profits don't talk to tech companies, those in corporates don't talk to local business owners.
And I have been thinking for the last month or so that bringing people together across companies, role types, borders and sectors could be a way to break down some of silos and work loneliness we're in. It could also be a way to create impact, connection and unlock change.
Why this format?
I grew up tagging along to tea & coffee mornings. My mum would go to them regularly, it would be a way to meet new people and old friends. We shifted countries a fair bit and finding people to connect with, a community, was really important to her (she loves to meet new people and is always curious about their stories). So this drop-in session is a way to replicate the 'tea & coffee' mornings of my childhood, a way to build connection that isn't intimidating or scary.
It's something that has been lost as a lot of us have gone remote. As our careers have become more specialised, and more online, it's harder to find others who do what we do but in another organisation. We also don't get the cross pollination and exposure to completely different fields, sectors or ways of working. Non profits don't talk to tech companies, those in corporates don't talk to local business owners. And I have been thinking for the last month or so that just bringing people together across companies, role types, borders and sectors could be a way to break down some of silos and work loneliness we're in.
So come join if you're free - and it it's fun I think this could be a regular thing.
