AI for Immersive _ Brighton XReactive tech meetup
The inaugural event of Brighton’s XReactive tech meetup - a new recurring event that provides a platform for art+tech professionals, creative coders, immersive creators, and everyone interested in xcreative technology.
The first edition focus AI beyond the screen, AI for Immersive.
Amoeba - Creative content creation for VR and AI. Talk and Q+A with Scott McPherson
Amoeba, an early practitioner in the field of virtual reality and AI animation workflows, presents a showcase and a Q+A with their innovative work. We will summarise the workflows behind creating captivating VR experiences and bespoke AI animations. Whether for installations, advertising, motion graphics, or projection mapping at Events/Festivals or in extended reality (XR) spaces.
The Evolution of Workflows
In the early days of VR and AI, creators faced limitations. Tools were rudimentary, and achieving high-quality results was a challenge.
Fast-forward to today, and the landscape has transformed. Modern design tools and emerging technologies have revolutionised the creative process. Learn how we can leverage cutting-edge software, harnessing the power of AI and real-time rendering engines. These advancements enable seamless collaboration between clients, artists, designers, and developers.
As VR and AI converge to unlock new realms of creativity, artists experiment with generative AI, exploring uncharted territories. From procedural content generation to adaptive storytelling, they redefine what’s possible within screen and virtual spaces.

Vadim Epstein - From Open Source to Open End
Digital artist, director, educator, coder, VJ; former IT consultant and casual theoretical physicist, combining generative methods with figurative imagery and algo narratives in multimedia art since 1996 and generative graphics since 2009.
Vadim has worked with AI/ML technologies since 2017, using it as expressive means from the creative coding perspective - which was native for “classic” generative methods that evolved over decades. Such an approach means exploring intrinsic features, aesthetics and semantics of the novel methods rather than using ready-made tools for specific results. The outcomes sometimes resemble the old-good concept of glitch with a slightly different take as there's no concept of "failure" in this case.
This becomes especially relevant nowadays - when more and more tasks and functions are taken over by AI, and maybe the only human privilege left is the open-ended exploration of the world. Let’s see if the autonomous AI agents will overtake it.

Eric Drass // Shardcore - AI and the artist
Eric Drass is an artist making work in a range of media, from painting, to music, to machine-learning AI art. Some of his favourite themes are identity, consciousness, the philosophical ramifications of artificial intelligence, big data and the relationship between humans and machines. Sometimes this work is political, frequently it is playful, often it is provocative or transgressive in some way. Eric holds a degree in Philosophy and Psychology (Oxford) and an unfinished PhD in Cognitive Psycholinguistics (also Oxford). He is co-author on a number of technology patents, and academic papers relating to neural network models of language acquisition and heritability.
He also used to be a singer in an experimental hardcore band, an unsuccessful male model, and once took a dotcom company to 14 countries and back, spending $50m on the way. A long time ago he was a TV star in America, but he doesn’t like to talk about it.
In 2025 Ai is going to be everywhere. Culture is adapting, but the adaptation is not evenly distributed. The creative industries are one of the first areas to face major disruption, artists are the canaries in the coalmine for the wave that’s coming for everyone. This talk will investigate the tension between AI, art, culture and authenticity.
