About Event

About the event:
You are invited to a special Chinatown community engagement afternoon + film screening! 🎥 🍿

Join us for the first viewing of The Azure Dragon of the East, a new short film directed by Jordon Hon and produced by Intertwined Studios (runtime 7:11). The film chronicles the creation of BusyRawk’s second piece in his Four Guardians of Chinatown mural series. Dive into the creative and collaborative process behind the new mural and explore the symbolism of the Azure Dragon and accompanying poem in the context of Edmonton’s Chinatown.

This stunning visual artwork unveiled on September 28, 2024, now graces the east side of the Mah Society of Edmonton where we will be hosting the screening.

After the short film screening, we welcome you to participate in a Q&A session and facilitated community dialogue activities led by Yihua Zhang and Kim Smith, to deepen our connections and discuss themes of the mural and Chinatown’s evolving story.

🔵 Light refreshments will be provided throughout the afternoon. Please arrive at 2PM to give yourself time to settle in before we begin our program.

🔵 Bathrooms available on site. Screening will take place in the basement only accessible by stairs. Please contact the organizers if you have any accessibility needs. No sign interpretation is planned for the event. The film is subtitled.

🔵 This event will be photographed and recorded for documentation purposes. If you have any concerns about this, please contact us ahead of time or let us know at the event.

🔵 This is an invite-only event for individuals who have demonstrated care and involvement with Edmonton's Chinatown. Please avoid sharing this event page link around. We wanted to plan this screening and activities intentionally to bring our community together and have meaningful dialogue. The film will be made available online after the event and more screening opportunities are in the works!

We look forward to sharing this meaningful experience with you and sincerely hope you can attend 🐲
