The Future of Reporting Scope 3 Emissions: The Path to 100% Primary Data
More than 90% of S&P 500 companies and 70% of Russell 1000 companies publish ESG reports in some form in 2022. Over 13,000 companies, which cover 64% of global market cap, reported to CDP in 2022.
While as much as 75% of the total corporate emissions are estimated to come from Scope 3, over 80% of companies report that quantifying Scope 3 is difficult. Why? According to a survey conducted by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), 83% of respondents said it was hard to get relevant data for Scope 3 emissions. Unfortunately, publicly available data has limited breadth or is often out of date, and collecting primary data from suppliers is costly and time-consuming.
In this one hour webinar, you’ll learn:
Current data challenges with Scope 3 emissions reporting
Pathways toward 100% primary data
Role of high quality secondary data as a catalyst for achieving 100% primary data
Three speakers will share their experience and visions, each speaker with a unique perspective: (1) a sustainability manager who gathers data and reports on Scope 3 emissions; (2) an environmental scientist who develops Scope 3 emissions factor data; and (3) a verifier who audits and reviews GHG emissions reports.
The three speakers are:
Dr. Kendra Garner, Senior Manager Sustainability at EA
Dr. Sangwon Suh, Chief Scientist, VitalMetrics
Trevor Donaghu, Program Manager, Apex Companies
The webinar is brought to you by VitalMetrics, a provider of scientifically defensible sustainability metrics, including the CEDA Global database.
