Gingerbread Identity Exploration 🎄✨ (Winter Solstice Salon)
For the Winter Solstice, come decorate your gingerbread man through a guided exploration of the question, “What makes me who I am?” With a small group or on your own, embark on a cozy and delicious journey to honor the Stardust, Body, Histories, and Relationships that help make up who you are.
Why: The Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year, a moment for us to re-form in a womb of darkness. As light slowly begins to return, it’s a time to honor the question of the Contemplarium’s Season on Origins: What makes me who I am?
What: Everyone will get a gingerbread man to decorate. In small groups, you’ll rotate through four stations, each exploring a theme of what makes us who we are (see below). At each station, you’ll have some time to reflect and decorate your gingerbread with some symbol depicting a story or facet of that theme for you. Then you'll have a chance to share with your group. We’ll wrap up with a sweet way to end the evening :)
Stations:
Stardust – the ways our physical and cosmic origins, as parts of of a larger universe, contribute to who we are
Body – the ways our molecules and cells, tissues and neurons, contribute to who we are
Histories – the ways our ancestors and inheritances, migrations and mixings, upbringings and narratives, contribute to who we are
Relationships – the ways that those around us, the web of social relations in which we are nodes, contribute to who we are
If you’re looking for a fun way this holiday season to explore and honor some of the things that make you who you are, please join us!
Donate: Sliding scale, recommended donation of $10 to cover the cost of the event!
