About Event

Join us for a nature-allied forest therapy walk in Epping Forest on Jessica J. Lee's book 'Dispersals: On Plants, Borders and Belonging.'

*Please note this event by Roots of Belongingis intended for those who self-identify as mixed race, dual heritage or multicultural people of colour. Our organisation is building a community for POCs to feel safe and at home in nature. We are part of a wider movement that is helping to make the UK outdoors more diverse, equitable and inclusive.

For our summer Book Walk, we're excited to be partnering with Juniper By The Sea, which is the UK's first-ever East and South-East Asian (ESEA) bookshop. Subscribe to our newsletter at rootsofbelonging.org to receive your discount code for Jessica J. Lee's Dispersals: On Plants, Borders and Belonging!

For our Book Walks, we come together in wild spaces outdoors to talk about books that help us feel we belong.

Where: We will meet at Chingford Station (overground line) in front of the Chingford Community Hub - look out for my yellow backpack! If you are struggling to find the meeting point, message or call Isabella at +447393947959.

About the walk: This will be a moderate walk so please wear what you would feel comfortable walking in long distances. We will walk about 10-15 minutes from Chingford Station to Butler's Retreat Café which has toilets, a water refill station and serves coffee and tea etc.

What you can expect: All Roots of Belonging Book Walks start with an hour of facilitated nature-allied forest therapy, to help ground the group and connect to the land and each other. We'll then go on a gentle walk through Epping Forest together, followed by a facilitated discussion of Jessica J. Lee's Dispersals: On Plants, Borders and Belonging.

Note: Please feel free to bring with you enough water and a packed lunch to enjoy after the walk! All our Book Walks are completely free to attend. You might want to bring binoculars/a picnic blanket.

About Roots of Belonging: We host interdisciplinary outdoor events by and for mixed, bi-cultural and multicultural people of colour to connect with nature and cultivate their belonging. We believe that being in embodied kinship with nature (what we call the “more-than-human world”) is the direct path to being at home and feeling that we belong. We are building a diverse, inclusive and equitable community that deeply understands we belong to nature.
