Everything you need to know about this session!
Singing is a fundamental part of being human. It's uplifting, soulful and an expression of the human spirit. And the science shows that singing is good for us too, supporting the three pillars of health: mental, physical and social. However, singing is something from which many of us become disconnected in adulthood, choosing to quieten or silence our own singing voices for fear of judgment or ridicule. And this is a great loss.
Someone who understands all of this is vocal leader, facilitator and author James Sills. Over the last two decades he has brought together tens of thousands of people across the world to connect through the communal singing experience: from football stadiums to festivals, community choirs to conferences, workplaces to workplaces.
In March 2020 James launched Sofa Singers, a global online singing community in response to the Covid 19 pandemic, for which he won a Points of Award from the UK Prime Minister. Five years later, Sofa Singers continues to be a safe and inclusive space for people all over the world to sing and socialise from the comfort of their own home.
In his virtual session for The World Wide Wander, James will invite you to connect with your own voice and with each other through learning the classic song ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers, with some optional backing harmonies. It’s a bit like joining a remote yoga class, but behind the safety of the mute button. You can truly sing like no-one is listening, because they won’t be!
James will be also be talking about how singing supports our wellbeing and will close the session with a short Q&A and reflection.

Hang on, this is free?
Yes! Street Wisdom is a non-profit on a mission to bring inspiration to every street on planet earth. We were founded by the arts and business innovator, David Pearl, after he noticed his work with clients always got to newer, deeper places when he walked outdoors with them. David's mission has always been to make and keep Street Wisdom free for everyone. If you are drawn to support our work, please do make a donation. Thank you.
Stay streetwise
The Street Wisdom Walkshop has a risk disclaimer (see below) which you agree to by making a booking. This is to remind you that the wonderful big outdoor world - as well as potentially containing fresh new insights, ideas and intention - contains all sorts of things including risks, and so it's important to be vigilant. We think Street Wisdom is about heightening your awareness, the kind that means you're becoming more alert, rather than zoning out. So importantly: have fun, find your Street Wisdom, but also be streetwise.
