Real Madrid Wins Copa Del Rey 20 Times, Beats Osasuna 2-1

Real Madrid have won the Copa del Rey for the 20th time in their history thanks to a 2-1 win over fellow La Liga side Osasuna in Saturday night's final at the Estadio de La Cartuja.

Lucas Torro canceled out Rodrygo's opener to put the teams level in Seville.

But the Real Madrid striker scored again in the 70th minute to seal the trophy for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

It was Madrid's 20th success in this competition and their first since 2014.

The reigning Spanish and European champions will now turn their attention to the Champions League, set to welcome Manchester City in the first leg of their semi-final on Tuesday.

Osasuna were looking to win the Copa del Rey for the first time in only their second appearance in the final but ultimately fell short against a Real Madrid side who were the superior side on the night.

Real Madrid made the breakthrough in the second minute of the game, with Vinicius Junior dancing into the box before setting up Rodrygo, who scored from close range.

Osasuna had half a chance to equalize in the eighth minute when Ruben Pena stepped into the area before setting up Ante Budimir, but the striker's header was parried by Thibaut Courtois.

Jagoba Arrasate's side had another chance in the 15th minute when Jon Moncayola picked out Moi Gomez with a dangerous cross, but the midfielder's header was just wide of the post.

Both sides then had big chances in the 25th minute, with Sergio Herrera doing brilliantly to deny Karim Benzema, before Dani Carvajal cleared Abde Ezzalzouli's shot from the line at the other end.

David Alaba - back in the side after recovering from a hamstring injury - then hit the bar with a rasping free-kick in the 32nd minute, before Vinicius curled a shot wide of the far post three minutes later, with Real Madrid threatening to double their lead.

Osasuna found themselves level after just an hour, with Torro picking the bottom corner with a superb strike after Ezzalzouli's cross had cleared to him on the edge of the box.

Real Madrid had half a chance to regain the lead in the 62nd minute when Benzema set up Federico Valverde in a dangerous area but the midfielder fired wide from the far post.

Osasuna struggled to get out during a period of dominance from the capital team, and Ancelotti's team took the lead again in the 70th minute through Rodrygo.

He finished past Herrera from close range after some sloppy defending from Osasuna, with Toni Kroos' effort falling friendly for his teammate.

Alaba had a golden chance to make it 3-1 in the 77th minute when he received a superb Rodrygo cross, but the centre-back's header was just wide of the post.

There was more good news for Los Blancos in the evening, as Luka Modric returned from a hamstring injury, indicating that he is ready to start against Man City next week.

Vinicius should have secured victory in the final exchange when he burst into the back of the net.

But the Brazil international looked for a pass to Benzema when he might have had a shot of his own.

Carvajal then pulled off a clever clearance at the other end to prevent Chimy Avila from taking a shot on goal, as Real Madrid secured the trophy for the 20th time in their history.
