About Event

As part of Design Week South Africa and October Transportation Month, join us for the Rosebank street experiment activation on Bath Avenue, where we will reimagine the future of pedestrian-friendly streets in the heart of Rosebank. Organized by Young Urbanists with The Rosebank Management District, this event will feature discussions and demonstrations focused on safer walkways, vibrant public spaces, and new pedestrian crossings.

Interactive slash guerrilla activities will encourage participants to engage creatively within the road space and imagine how these enhancements could transform the neighborhood. Be part of this exciting initiative as we present an outline for future interventions like universally accessible zebra crossings and more safer Bath Avenue. This forms part of completed streets by the City of Johannesburg and GoRosebanks goal of shaping a more accessible, walkable, and community-focused precinct.

Who can come?

Everyone is welcome! Whether you're a local resident, an urban design enthusiast, a pedestrian advocate, or simply curious about how our streets can be transformed, we invite you to join us. This is a family-friendly event open to all ages, so bring your friends, family, and neighbours to experience a new vision for Bath Avenue.

What to bring?

  • Comfortable walking shoes, as the event involves strolling through the street experiment areas.

  • Sunscreen and a hat, as activities will be outdoors.

  • A water bottle to stay hydrated.

  • Your creativity! We encourage participants to engage with the guerrilla-style activities and bring ideas on how to enhance street safety and accessibility.

  • A phone or camera to capture and share the experience, as well as any thoughts or feedback on future interventions.

What will you do?

We will use temporary installations like cones, chalk paint, and neon pedestrian markers to create walkways, crosswalks, and gathering spaces, demonstrating a safer and more pedestrian-friendly Bath Avenue. Playful guerrilla activities will include neon pedestrian figures made from balloons and cones, creatively highlighting pedestrian safety and inviting participants to engage with the transformed space.
