Speakers
Rob Lind - Syngenta Fellow Computer Vision & AI at Syngenta Group
Talk title: Unleashing the potential of synthetic images for computer vision
Abstract: Computer vision pipelines require high quality training sets to deliver robust and generalisable models. Real images are usually in short supply, lack diversity or miss rare events creating a shortfall for training. Synthetic images, referred to as deepfakes, promise a potential to plug these gaps. This talk will give an overview of the pros and cons of different methods of creating synthetic images and how GenAI may hold the ultimate solution.
Ibrahim Chadirchi - VP Engineering at SeeChange Technologies
Talk title: Doing AI in the very real and very messy world of supermarkets!
Abstract: SeeChange is deploying ML based computer vision systems into the real world of Supermarkets. This talk will take you through the things we have learned along the way, some of the challenges we have had, how we have met them and how we look at the future for ML in these applications.
Martins Bruveris - Senior Staff Applied Scientist at Onfido
Talk title: Learning Sutton's bitter lesson while building remote identity verification
Abstract: This talk will sketch the journey we have been on using ML to build a remote identity verification product. On this journey we have repeatedly encountered the tension between desired features and lack of data, between bespoke algorithms and black-box deep learning, that is described in Sutton's bitter lesson.
