Meet the Panelists
Lerato Umah-Shaylor
Lerato is a chef, broadcaster, and the award-winning author of AFRICANA. She is a leading voice in African cookery and her ground-breaking debut cookbook, Africana: Treasured recipes and stories from across the continent, was published in 2022 to great acclaim and celebrated in several international Best Book of the Year lists. She is especially respected for creating vibrant and accessible recipes that brings this diverse continent to the plates and hearts of cooks in the UK and around the world.

Kiano Moju
Kiano Moju, author of AFRICALI, is a Kenyan/Nigerian American chef and founder of The Jikoni Recipe Archive. Based in LA, Kiano is a powerhouse in the kitchen and on screen, creating cooking videos for big names like Food Network and Tastemade. Her work celebrates African cuisine in all its glory, making her a leading figure in bringing these rich culinary traditions to a global audience.
Her debut book, AFRICALI, invites home-cooks to explore African-inspired and globally-influenced dishes, all of which are accented by California’s bountiful produce. This inventive collection of 85+ vibrant and modern recipes beautifully illustrates Kiano’s passion for her African heritage and California lifestyle.
Benjamina Ebuehi (Host)
Benjamina Ebuehi is a London based food writer, cookbook author and food stylist. She has three baking cookbooks under her belt; her most recent book, I'll Bring Dessert was published in April 2024 and is filled with approachable, creative and flavour forward recipes, praised by the likes of Nigella Lawson. She's been a columnist at The Guardian for over 3 years and also runs a popular Substack newsletter where she shares new recipes and recommendations fortnightly.
