Women Scientists on the forefront of Climate Action
We know that the world needs science — and science needs women who bring forward the solutions shaping our future. Given their unique position on the frontlines of the climate crisis, women have been key agents of change by spearheading climate-focused governance, driving investments in renewables, influencing consumer decisions, and more.
At Marble, we’re excited to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by giving these changemakers a platform to discuss, learn, and connect with like-minded professionals - all driven by the shared goal of tackling climate change.
We’re excited to host a panel session with Silvia Pugliese, PhD and her co-Founder, working on a stealth-mode Direct Air Capture (DAC) startup, Tracy Nevitt, PhD - developing a cutting-edge solution to enteric methane, and Caroline Thaler, PhD - CEO of Bloomineral.
Silvia Pugliese, PhD holds a PhD in electrochemistry from Collège De France focused on CO2 electro-reduction. A recipient of the EU-funded Marie Curie Fellowship (eSCALED project) and a repeat climate tech founder, she has authored patents and publications in greenhouse gas management technologies. She now serves as Co-founder and CTO of her DAC startup.
Her co-founder is a mechanical engineer by training, spent several years in the CDR space leading strategy and commercialization at leading climate tech companies, before teaming up with Silvia to build the future of DAC together as a CEO.
Tracy Nevitt, PhD is a molecular geneticist and biochemist with +25 years of experience in infectious diseases and host-microbiome research within academia and industry. After obtaining her Ph.D. in Biochemistry (ITQB, Portugal), followed by a postdoc at Duke University, Tracy transitioned into industry with main research remaining focused on the microbiome as integral to human health and development. Tracy is now a Co-Founder and CSO of a company aiming to eliminate enteric methane emissions.
Caroline Thaler, PhD: Co-Founder and CEO of Bloomineral, growing high performance concrete materials that remove and sequester atmospheric CO2. She has obtained a PhD in biogeochemistry, followed by 4 postdoctoral studies in leading institutions such as Weizmann institute (Israel), IPGP (Paris), MNHN (Paris) and LSCE (Saclay). She then pivoted to entrepreneurship as a Founder-in-Residence at Marble, where she received her pre-Seed funding and is now advancing Bloomineral in the lab at LSCE in Saclay.
Together, they’ll share how they forged their path, talk about their personal experiences: the challenges of building a startup, balancing motherhood in a high-stakes environment, and knowing when is the right time to leave academia.
They’ve all leveraged their scientific expertise to build a high-impact climate venture, making this a great opportunity to learn from firsthand experience.
