Presenting the Work On Climate Hardtech Talent Transition Industry Coalition Workshop —

As advances in climate policy and investment enable innovation and increased deployment of climate solutions in every industry, human capital is becoming the next bottleneck. The new economy demands a new workforce, estimated to include hundreds of millions of workers globally.

Current and imminent talent shortages – from battery chemists to carbon accountants – present an urgent challenge both for organizations deploying climate solutions (who struggle to find key staff) and for organizations shaping the workforce (who struggle to adapt to the workforce demands of the new economy).

In order to kick off coordinated action on this issue, Work On Climate is gathering the first-ever industry workshop on the climate talent transition during the New York Climate Week. The workshop will highlight the need for a systemic approach to the talent transition and bring together stakeholders from the climate solutions ecosystem and the talent ecosystem broadly, aiming to form pilot working groups for specific challenges.

This first working group, the “Hardtech WG”, will focus on the talent challenges in bringing technological innovations in climate solutions from research to market. The next WG will focus on corporate decarbonization, culminating in the creation of a new industry body to accelerate action on the climate talent transition challenge.

At this point we are looking for additional stakeholders of the following types:

  • Leaders of later-stage climate hardtech companies in sectors such as food, ag, alternative materials.

  • Leaders of STEM programs at educational institutions of all levels (from high school to postgraduate) in New York state.
