About Event

Fertility challenges affect approximately one in six couples globally. The complex relationship between genetics and reproductive health is an evolving field that explores how genetic factors may influence fertility. Research suggests that genetics can play a significant role in reproductive function, contributing to fertility-related difficulties.

This lecture will explore genetic insights related to both male and female reproductive health, discussing how these findings may be integrated into clinical practice. Topics will include genetic predispositions that can influence fertility, such as cellular defense mechanisms, the role of melatonin, glucose and insulin balance, hormonal regulation, histamine response, neurochemical balance, and vascular health.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Review various genetic screening approaches and their potential applications in reproductive health.

  • Discuss genetic factors that may be associated with fertility challenges in both males and females.

  • Explore how genetic variations can influence nutrient needs and overall reproductive wellness.

  • Introduce a practical framework for understanding gene variants relevant to fertility and pregnancy.

Join us for this informative session as Annelie Smith, a registered dietician with a medical degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Cape Town South Africa, shares insights into the role of genetics in reproductive health and discusses key considerations for clinical application.
