PDN Pro-Social: Trans-inclusive Design
What should designers know in order to ensure that people who are transgender, non-binary, or gender-variant feel included and affirmed - rather than excluded or harmed - on platforms? Join us for a conversation with Erin White, whose 2019 publication "Trans-inclusive Design" continues to provide essential guidance to the responsible tech community in answering that question. Erin will talk to us about the principles of trans-inclusive design, update us on the most common lapses they continue to see, and share practical actions we can take to be sure we are creating inclusive experiences.
About Erin: Erin is a long-time web maker, UXer, and information architect with formal education in information science. For 13 years Erin scaled and led a cross-functional digital team that transformed web platforms at a university library. After a year moonlighting in B2B diversity consulting, they shifted again to civic tech, working to make more accessible, user-centered experiences on government websites.
About Pro-Socials: Pro-Socials are informal meet-ups, where technologists and researchers can learn from - and inspire - each other around understanding and integrating prosocial design. Each Pro-Social includes a motivating question, conversation with experts and break-out convos where you can meet like-minded technologists (designers, product managers, entrepreneurs and trust & safety professionals) and researchers to share insights and begin to co-create new knowledge together.
