World Music Oasis

A night of rhythm, remembrance, and revelry under the stars

Join us for the debut of World Music Oasis, the first in a new series celebrating global sounds and soulful gathering.

Set in an intimate San Rafael hillside enclave with sweeping views, Underdog Estate becomes a vibrant stage for music, movement, and connection.

🩵 Dedication to Rob Reich 🩵

This event is dedicated in loving memory to Rob Reich, a greatly loved and immensely talented musician in the Bay Area music community. We will celebrate and make music and merriment in his honor.

La Zuli

La Zuli combines the virtuosic talents of violinist Briana Di Mara and guitarist Anis Sehiri, weaving fresh original melodies and danceable rhythms influenced by music everywhere from Spain to North Africa to the Balkans and beyond. With lush harmonies and improvisations combining with powerful bass and drums (Aaron Keirbel and Erinn Wilkerson), their genre-bending music is unique and uplifting. They will be joined by the amazing dancer Nicole Maria.

Los Alegres Callejeros

Los Alegres Callejeros are a Cumbia and Latin Tropical Music band that formed in 2017 at 1st Fridays in Oakland. They have played at both SF & Oakland Carnaval and numerous public and private events around The Bay Area. Alegre means cheerful, Callejero has many meanings including street performer. They draw from rich musical traditions to bring forward a unique musical experience. Whether upbeat Tropical Latin dance music or slow hypnotic minor key vamps, their melodies are infectious and their rhythms are guaranteed to make you move and groove!

Raman and Faisal

This duo plays traditional Kurdish and Arabic music.

Raman Osman A Kurdish composer and master tembûr/tambour (saz) musician from Al-Hasaka, Syria. He’s a self-taught musician who began at the age of 10. He started composing at the age of 15 when he began developing his own style of playing tambour. He has performed at a variety of venues, including the Damascus Opera House, and several cultural centers. Raman currently lives in Northern California where he performs Kurdish music and music from the Middle East as a solo artist as well as with artists from various world music traditions.

Faisal Zedan Born in Lebanon and raised in Syria, An Arabic percussionist dedicated to preserving and teaching Arabic music and drumming. He has been teaching and performing Arabic and Middle Eastern music since 1996. Faisal performs many Arabic music genres with focus on classical music and belly dance. In addition to Arabic and Middle Eastern music, Faisal performs Greek, Balkan and Eastern European music genres. Faisal teaches private lessons, workshops, seminars and at music camps in the U.S and abroad. He performed and correlated with many local and international artists both locally and throughout the United States.

Dodona

Dodona, named after the ancient oracle of the region Epirus, dips into the deep wellspring of musical traditions from Epirus, Albania, and across Northern Greece. With melodies ranging from mournful to celebratory, plaintive to driving, trance-inducing to surprising, Dodona brings their love of this unique music and  instrumentation to the Bay Area for listeners and dancers alike.

Dodona features Calvin Lai on clarinet, Greg Jenkins on clarinet and vocals, Genevieve Krause on vocals, Jenette Sellin on accordion, and Sean Tergis on percussion.

Nicole Maria

Nicole Maria is a multi-award-winning dancer based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been studying and performing contemporary and traditional forms of Arabic dance for over a decade. In 2019, she was a featured soloist in the prestigious San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.

Mizuho Sato

Born in Iwate, Japan, Mizuho Sato began ballet at age 2.5 and later discovered flamenco during university in Tokyo, leading her to intensive training in Seville and Madrid. Recognized early by the Japanese Flamenco Association and the Spanish Ambassador, she moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and performed at major venues before founding the Mizuho Sato Flamenco Company in San Francisco in 2018. A featured soloist in award-winning productions and a collaborator with leading artists and institutions, she now teaches at Stanford and continues to enrich the arts through performance and education.
