Benchmarking for ML in drug discovery is… complicated. There’s a lack of standardized, domain-appropriate datasets, guidelines, and tools for method evaluation and comparison. This is limiting the real-world impact that ML can have on existing drug discovery programs.
We want to help align the community toward the development of methods that matter. In other words, ensuring that the ML methods we’re creating have a strong impact in real-world drug discovery scenarios.

Polaris is a benchmarking platform for ML in drug discovery. Today, you can find some datasets and benchmarks on the platform that are easily accessible through the Polaris Hub. In the future, we hope to provide the community with:
A recommended set of benchmarks and datasets that represent tasks typically performed in drug discovery. We’ll evaluate existing datasets for experimental best practices and eventually aim to curate or generate new, fit-for-purpose datasets.
A set of guidelines for dataset curation, method evaluation (e.g., dataset splitting, evaluation metrics), and method comparison (e.g. statistical tests).
A set of open-source software tools to simplify the adoption of best practices.

The event is only a 4-minute walk from the Messe Wien convention centre. Dinner and drinks will be provided.
