About Event

SF Game Development is excited to host talks from three indie game developers that are members of our community at DNA Lounge on Tuesday, January 16th from 5:30pm-9:00pm. Food will be available for purchase at the DNA restaurant and drinks are available for purchase at the DNA Lounge bar. All proceeds from food and drink sales go directly to the venue which helps them keep the lights on, and also helps us continue to host events in their space. DNA Lounge is over 3,000 sqft and is the largest venue we've ever hosted our events at. Speakers will go on stage at 7:00pm. This is an all ages event, is open to the public and is a professional networking event for game developers, artists, students, indies, or really anyone interested in game development.

Speaker Lineup:

Annie Serrano, Co-Founder at Ephemeral Cube
Talk: Crafting Diversity: Cultural Mix in Indie Game Aesthetics
Description: Project Timi: Sasha's Curse, a captivating blend of music and action, where mastery of beat and rhythm is crucial for defeating foes. Our game draws inspiration from Nintendo games, such as Animal crossing and Kirby. And it’s also influenced by the rich tapestry of Mexican culture. We’ll show you our workflow on how we blend these elements together and how we bring this cultural mix into the aesthetics of our game.

Alex Ogorek, CEO & Creative Director at Pixel Diamond Games LLC
Talk: Break It Down, Then Blow It Up!
Description: Join us for a dynamic exploration into the world of game systems design! Whether you're a fresh face in the developer's realm or a seasoned veteran, this talk is your ticket to unlocking the secrets of crafting multi-layered gaming experiences. We'll delve into the art of breaking complex systems into byte-sized components, allowing for swift testing and iterative development. From the intricacies of enemy spawning to the magic of questing and beyond, discover how to build scalable, interwoven systems that bring games to life. Let's break it down, then blow them up together!

Aaron Nemoyten, Creator of Moustachevania
Talk: Indie Fumbles: What Not To Do
Description: After working on the mobile hit Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes as Live Services Producer at Electronic Arts, Aaron Nemoyten set out on his own to "go indie" and started work on Moustachevania while taking on contract work. Between 2016 and 2023, Aaron turned down a publishing offer, rescoped the game, developed a pitch, and worked with a top agency to find a publisher, but ultimately abandoned the project and released it for free. In this talk, Aaron will talk candidly about what went right and wrong and how it relates to the wider indie game development and publishing landscape in 2024.

See you all there!
Thank you everyone for RSVPing for our SF Game Development event with our fellow indie game developers. We can't wait to see everyone there. Make sure to arrive at 5:30pm for networking and game demos.
