Welcome to Freelancing! (workshop)

​So... you want to work for yourself? (as a freelancer or consultant etc)

​You probably have a lot of questions!

• ​how will I know whether I even want to do consulting?

• ​how will I decide what services to offer?

• ​how will I build confidence?

• ​how will I develop credibility?

• ​how will I get my first clients? (pilot clients)

• ​how do I explore this part of myself?

​We'll answer these in this workshop! 🎉

​The workshop includes:

• ​Well-structured, clear concepts.

  • ​A meta-framework for understanding your business.

• ​Concrete examples.

  • ​How Casey addressed each of these questions for his 2 year old business Happy and Effective.

• ​Tools/resources.

  • ​Pragmatic resources, like spreadsheet templates Casey has used/developed, etc.

  • ​Access to Casey's personal wiki of freelancing/business concepts.

• ​Peer support.

  • ​Listening to (and sharing with) peers about how they are grappling with these issues.

  • ​Access to a long-running Discord (text chat) channel with other workshop attendees.

​Format

• ​Hour 1 = Casey will give an overview of the lessons he has learned in the past two years running Happy and Effective.

• ​Hour 2 = A structured discussion, facilitated by Casey on what the group wants to discuss, (Lean Coffee style). Way better than a Q&A session.

​We’ll touch on so many topics, including:

• ​identifying your target audience; finding initial clients; finding leads; sales funnel phases; credibility building; dealing with imposter syndrome; pricing; defining services; starter services; competitive analysis; legal/organizational structures; formal paperwork (SOW, MSA); managing leads & deals (like in a CRM); freelancing terminology (freelance, etc); how to get paid; common software/tools.

​By the end you should feel:

• ​Confident that you know HOW to figure out whether/how freelancing makes sense for you.

• ​Empowered with tools to run your own business in a sustainable way.

• ​Motivated to try new ideas and to keep learning more.

• ​Supported by a cohort of peers, where you belong.

​All of this is is what I would have wanted when I was getting started two years ago... I'm a little jealous of you all! Mostly though, I'm excited for you 🤓
